The Northern Districts Cricket Association (NDCA) has appointed Ken Rutherford as its new Chief Executive, effective 7 April 2025.

Rutherford, a former New Zealand cricket captain, has held senior positions in the horse racing and wagering industries, most recently as the Chief Operating Officer of the Albion Park Harness Racing Club in Brisbane.

A former NDCA Director, Rutherford has a wide and varied experience in cricket, having been involved in the sport as a player, a selector, a coach and a media pundit.

Announcing the appointment, NDCA Chair Braedon Makgill said the Board was delighted the position had attracted someone of Rutherford’s calibre.

“Ken has a unique combination of a strong management skill set and a passion for the game of cricket. Ken impressed with his wealth of knowledge of the challenges facing cricket – both the professional and community game”, Makgill said.

“Importantly too, Ken is someone with strong relationship skills who is capable of building and evolving our strategic direction and working closely with our six District Associations in this regard”, Makgill continued.

Commenting on his appointment, Rutherford says he is extremely privileged to have been offered the NDCA CEO role. “I understand and I am excited by the great responsibility that comes with this role. Thanks to the work of the current administration the game in the Northern Districts catchment has strong fundamentals in place”.

“I want to ensure we build on this momentum so Northern Districts cricket continues to thrive – from local parks to our Association’s biggest grounds”.
