REGIONAL UMPIRE PANELS ANNOUNCED

Northern Districts’ (ND) Umpire Panels show the depth of ability in the region, with a number of new appointments this year. Panels were announced at the recent winter umpire’s training day at Seddon Park.

First-time appointees include Jonno Thomson’s appointment to the Reserve Panel. Jonno was named Emerging Official of the Year 2023-24 at the ND awards in March.

Letitia Rose has been named on the Emerging Panel and is a member of NZC’s Aspiring Female Umpire Programme. This national initiative gives development opportunities to female umpires with the aim of bridging the gap between community cricket appointments and domestic cricket appointments.

The ND Emerging Panel has also been reintroduced after a hiatus last season. “We have decided to reintroduce the Emerging panel due to the growth in umpire numbers coinciding with more pathway opportunities” says ND’s Regional Umpire Manager Luan Kloppers. “We are fortunate to have several new and younger umpires throughout ND, showing potential and a willingness to develop. We are looking forward to working with this group in creating pathway opportunities and mentoring support to achieve their goals.”

Development of officials and umpires in the region is an important part of growing the game at all levels. ND would like to give thanks to all those who give their hard work, especially in the off season. We look forward to connecting at the winter seminar in mid-July.
